Mozzarella and Jalapeno Stuffed Grilled Burger

_20151004_142958

According to my husband some dishes like kofta (meatball in gravy), haleem ( meat, wheat and daal combo), nihari, kebabs, lasagna, steaks are not authentic if beef is not used. Yes I mentioned steaks too because for some strange reasons many restaurants here serve chicken (even fish!) steaks….. Can you believe that? He gives his signature “Are you kidding me?” look when the waiter tells him, “Sorry Sir, we are out of beef.” Sometimes we walk out of the restaurant in protest and sometimes we order some other dish under duress. But when he gets his “dream steak” he always compliments the chef and tips generously.

He is not lenient towards chicken burgers either…. If it is not beef it is not a burger! Period. I try to give a new twist to patties every time and just like my other burger recipes this one is also gluten free. Always use lean meat for burgers. Honey mustard sauce will make these patties really happy 🙂

ingredients: ( 8 servings depending on the size of patty)

1 large onion, quartered

5-6 garlic cloves

1 kg lean minced beef

1 1/2 – 2 tsp salt

1 tsp freshly ground black pepper

3/4 tsp red chilli powder

1 1/2 tsp five spice powder

1/2 cup rice flour

3 eggs

for filling

1/2 – 3/4 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

3 tbsp jalapeno, finely chopped

oil for frying

for assembly

burger buns, gluten free or regular, as required

lettuce

mayonnaise

pickles

honey mustard sauce

ketchup

method:

Put onion and garlic in a food processor and run the machine for 30-40 seconds or until finely chopped. Add mince, spices and rice flour and process for another minute or two. Transfer the mixture to a large mixing bowl and add eggs; mix well.

In another small bowl combine shredded cheese and jalapeno.

Divide the meat mixture into 16 equal portions and form each portion into a patty. Take about a 1 1/2 tbsp of cheese mixture and place in the centre of 8 patties. Cover each cheese topped patty with a plain patty and seal the edges with a fork. Heat the grill pan or frying pan and drizzle some cooking oil and cook till desired doneness; around 2 1/2 minutes on each side but it depends on the thickness of patty. Keep the flame medium high.

Assemble as you like but I would highly recommend honey mustard.
